The General Dynamics F-16C “Splinter,” assigned to the USAF 64th Aggressor Squadron, is shown adorned in a disruptive geometric camouflage scheme during Red Flag 20-1. This angular pattern, known as “Splinter,” is designed to visually emulate Russian tactical aircraft and challenge pilot recognition and targeting. The 64th Aggressors operate a fleet of twenty-four F-16s, each tailored to replicate adversary threats in appearance and tactics. In response to evolving global threats, the Air Force reactivated the 65th Aggressor Squadron in June 2022, now flying F-35A Lightning IIs to simulate stealth-capable opponents. “Splinter” captures a moment of tactical realism and visual deception, bridging legacy and next-generation adversary training.
