Aviation Print - Draken Skyhawk Geardown
Aviation Print - Draken Skyhawk Geardown
Douglas A-4N Skyhawk
By Timothy Paul Smith Photography
Print Description:
A Draken International Douglas A-4N Skyhawk (N161EM) touches down at Nellis Air Force Base with speed brakes deployed and landing gear locked following a mission during Exercise Red Flag 20-1.
Originally built for the Israeli Air Force with 30mm DEFA cannons and an extended heat-dissipating tailpipe, this legendary airframe was later modernized by Draken with advanced radar and threat-simulation avionics. Operating as an airborne adversary support (Red Air) platform, it has a high roll rate and a small radar cross-section, making it an agile target for modern fighters—proving the enduring legacy of a design that first took to the skies in 1954.
